Mac video repair

Repair a corrupted video on a Mac, in the browser

Mac users have fewer ways to fix a broken MP4 or MOV than Windows users. Untrunc has no ready-made Mac app, and Stellar's Standard edition costs $49.99. The checker on this page runs in Safari, Chrome or Firefox on your Mac, reads the file from your disk, and shows your repaired footage before you pay.

There's no brew install untrunc: Homebrew has no Untrunc formula. You install FFmpeg and yasm with Homebrew and compile Untrunc yourself, as its README describes.

Repair a video on your Mac

  1. Open this page in Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
  2. Drop the broken MP4 or MOV on the checker. It reads the file on your Mac with WebAssembly; nothing is uploaded.
  3. The free check tells you whether it found the footage, and how much of the recording it can rebuild.
  4. If it asks for a sample, give it a clip that plays from the same camera or iPhone, recorded with the same settings. Many files need none.
  5. Watch the free 5-second preview, then download the full video. If it doesn't play, you get a refund.

The repaired file lands in your Downloads folder and opens in QuickTime when its codec is H.264 or H.265 with AAC sound.

What it has been tested on

H.265 test recordings, GoPro HERO5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 and MAX, a DJI Avata, RunCam, 70mai and Tesla dash cams and a Samsung Galaxy A56: we removed the index from real recordings, repaired them and compared every frame with the original, and they came back identical. The engine that runs in your browser has been the same as the Android app's since 12 October 2026, byte for byte.

What a user wrote

"Works great. €5 once for an unlock, with a preview first. Very happy, and it's clearly cheaper and simpler than all the other alternatives." (Google Play review in German, our translation, September 2026, of the Video Repair app for Android, same engine; prices have changed since)
