What is in the model

The joint parts sit on the bones they connect, so this page opens with the skeleton switched on as well.

Intervertebral disc

47 parts

For example: Intervertebral disc C2-C3 Discus intervertebralis C2-C3, Intervertebral disc C3-C4 Discus intervertebralis C3-C4, Intervertebral disc C4-C5 Discus intervertebralis C4-C5

Knee joint

22 parts

For example: Medial meniscus Meniscus medialis, Lateral meniscus Meniscus lateralis, Articular capsule of knee joint Capsula articularis articulationis genus

Hip joint

16 parts

For example: Transverse acetabular ligament Ligamentum transversum acetabuli, Acetabular labrum Labrum acetabuli, Pubofemoral ligament Ligamentum pubofemorale

Elbow joint

10 parts

For example: Articular capsule of elbow joint, Radial collateral ligament Ligamentum collaterale radiale cubiti, Ulnar collateral ligament Ligamentum collaterale ulnare cubiti

Sternoclavicular joint

12 parts

For example: Articular capsule of sternoclavicular joint Capsula articularis articuli sternoclavicularis, Articular disc of sternoclavicular joint Discus articulationis sternoclavicularis, Anterior sternoclavicular ligament Ligamentum sternoclaviculare anterius

Palmar intercarpal ligaments

18 parts

For example: Scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal ligament Ligamentum scaphotrapeziotrapezoideum, Scaphocapitate ligament Ligamentum scaphocapitatum, Palmar scaphotriquetral ligament Ligamentum scaphotriquetrum palmare

How to study it here

  1. 1

    Zoom into the knee

Tap the medial meniscus, then the anterior cruciate ligament. Turn to the back of the knee to find the posterior cruciate ligament.

  2. 2

    Make the bones glass

X-ray turns the bones see-through, so the ligaments inside a joint stay in view.

  3. 3

    Quiz on the ligaments

Quiz uses the systems on screen. Switch Skeleton off for a round with joint parts only.

Questions

Questions people ask

Which joints are in the model?
The joints of the spine with their discs and ligaments, the sternoclavicular and shoulder joints, the elbow, wrist and hand, the hip, the knee, and the ankle and foot.
Why are there 413 parts?
Every ligament, capsule, disc and meniscus is its own part, and most of them exist on both sides of the body.
Can I see the ligaments without the bones?
Yes. Switch Skeleton off in the row of systems under the model, or keep it on and use X-ray to turn the bones to glass.
