Pick Repairit when
- Your file is one of the formats Video Repair doesn't repair: MXF, BRAW, R3D, MTS, Insta360's INSV and others on Repairit's list. For MKV, WebM, TS and WMV, the Windows program only makes a playable MP4 copy; it doesn't rebuild the original.
- You want a Mac program rather than a browser tab.
Pick Video Repair when
- The file is an MP4, MOV or AVI, which is what phones, GoPro and DJI cameras and most dash cams record.
- You need one video, once. $4.99 in the browser or $3.99 in the Windows program, against a $29.99 month or a $59.99 licence.
- You have no sample clip. The checker repairs many recordings from the broken file alone.
- The video is private. The browser checker reads the file on your own computer; nothing is uploaded. Repairit's video page doesn't say how Repairit Online handles your file, so check before you upload anything private.
- It's on your phone. The Android app repairs it there.
How we test
We take real recordings, remove their index, repair them, and compare every frame with the original using FFmpeg's frame checksums. GoPro HERO5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and MAX, a DJI Avata, RunCam, 70mai and Tesla dash cams and a Samsung Galaxy A56 came back identical. Two of those took engine changes in October 2026: GoPro sound on 9 October (a HERO5 file had returned 1 sound frame of 1,620) and DJI's layout on 10 October (a DJI Avata file had returned 5 pictures of 364).
What people say
"Only app that actually works and it's incredibly fast as well! Totally worth paying for the premium, and it's surprisingly cheap." (Google Play review of the Video Repair app for Android, same engine, October 2026)
"recovered a video from a place I'll never visit again. it was 1 hour long going on to my YouTube channel." (John C., Google Play review, October 2026)
